Maxey might have the most natural instincts in terms of attacking the rim off of pick-and-rolls of anyone on the team, but he’s a rookie who will undoubtedly experience some growing pains early on in his NBA career. The first is that there still isn’t a high-level, traditional half-court shot creator on the roster, at least not one you can count on contributing from Day 1. There are still a few areas of concern for this team, though. Of the new additions, Green and Curry look to play the most significant roles, and Curry specifically gives the Sixers one of the better marksmen in the league, capable of either pulling up off the dribble as a ballhandler in a pick and roll, or in a catch-and-shoot role off the ball when Embiid is posting up. Overall, the Sixers have a lot more shooting up and down the roster than they had last year, which should be beneficial for Embiid and Simmons. Wings: Danny Green, Matisse Thybulle, Furkan Korkmaz, Terrance Ferguson, Isaiah Joeįorwards: Tobias Harris, Mike Scott, Paul ReedĬenters: Joel Embiid, Dwight Howard, Tony Bradley Roster outlook Guards: Ben Simmons (humor me), Seth Curry, Shake Milton, Tyrese Maxey, Ryan Broekhoff They’re in a rough order of players who come to mind first for me, but that’s about it. Just as quick parameters, guards roughly equate to either point guards or combo guards, wings as players who play either the 2 or 3 (or both) but who you wouldn’t trust to run your offense, forwards are players who are more suited to defending frontcourt players than perimeter players (but can’t really defend centers, and are more 3/4s than 2/3s), and centers are big men that you wouldn’t really want to switch out onto the perimeter all that much defensively.Īlso of note that this isn’t necessarily in the order that they will be in the rotation, in part because I don’t pretend to know what new head coach Doc Rivers is thinking, and in part because it could still be undecided and change based on needs, fit, who plays well in the preseason, how quickly some of the rookies adapt, and other factors. Rather than go position by position (point guard, shooting guard, etc), since those positional designations are often very fluid, I’m just going to lump them as “guards,” “wings,” “forwards” and “centers”.

Four “training camp” (non-guaranteed) deals. One two-way spot (assuming it will likely go to Paul Reed). One roster spot (assuming Isaiah Joe signs an NBA contract).
